I am a late-bloomer—only started writing when I turned 35—but the first story I wrote was published by Woman’s World. I am an observer of life and have found lots of inspiration from working with senior adults, then moving to 7th thru 12 graders to work in the abstinence program. I have two grown children who live in Florida and who want me to move there. But, I’ll probably stay in North Mississippi.
What inspired you to become a novelist, and did you always want to write?
I didn’t always want to write. I was a reader first, ever since before I went to school. Then, like I said, I started writing when I was 35. These people came to live in my head and wouldn’t go away until I wrote their story.
What do you think is significant about Christian fiction?
There are several things significant about Christian fiction. I like the way the Gospel is shared in a non-threatening way for people who might not believe. And all Christians struggle with life issues. Christian fiction shows how to deal with those problems.
How do you hope your readers react to the stories you write?
In addition to enjoying my stories, I want to help my readers. I had a reader send me an email recently, telling me how my character helped her deal with an issue she’d had for years. My story helped to heal her. When I read her email, it touched me so, I cried. Her story is why I write.
What has been the most surprising aspect to becoming a published novelist?
How an editor makes your book so much better. I had heard horror stories about editors, but my journey with mine has been awesome. They have kept me from embarrassing myself. :-)
Being a novelist had drawn me closer to Him. I cannot write without His help. It’s that simple. I start each morning out with quiet time and asking for the words He wants me to write. And a while back when I burned out on a story, it was through Him that I was able to get my enthusiasm back.
Other than being a novelist, what other goals do you have for your life?
So many. Lol. I often look back and wished I had chosen God’s plan for my life. It took me so many years to get to that place.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
What spare time? I have 3 books to write in 10 months. :-) When I do have time, I like to work in clay, either on the wheel or hand-building.
What can you tell us about your debut novel?
I think I’ll let the back cover copy speak for it.
Psychology professor and criminal profiler Taylor Martin prides herself on being able to solve any crime, except the one she wants most desperately to solve—the disappearance of her father twenty years ago. When she finally has a lead on his whereabouts, Taylor returns home to Logan Point, Mississippi, to investigate. But as she is stalking the truth about the past, someone is stalking her.
Nick Sinclair pens mystery novels for a living, but the biggest mystery to him is how he can ever get over the death of his wife—a tragedy he believes he could have prevented. With his estranged brother the only family he has left, Nick sets out to find him. But when he crosses paths with Taylor, all he seems to find is trouble.
Book 2 in the Logan Point series just released. Here’s the blurb for it:
In a steamy small town riddled with broken promises, one woman’s secret could change everything.
Acting Sheriff Ben Logan hasn’t heard from Leigh Somerall in a very long time, but it doesn’t mean he can get her—or their whirlwind romance of ten years ago—out of his head. When she calls out of the blue, it is with a strange request to protect her brother, Tony. But all too soon, Ben is charged with a different task—protecting Leigh from the people after her brother. With Leigh doing everything in her power to avoid Ben, it’s no easy task. And the secret she is keeping just may change their lives forever.
